What I'm focused on right now. In the spirit of nownownow.com.
Building Champollion
The bulk of my screen time goes to Champollion — a machine-translation evaluation platform: a blind head-to-head arena, public leaderboards broken down by language pair, and a linguistic knowledge base for low-resource languages. The CLI is open source and already keeps this site's thirty locales in sync; the platform is being built in public.
Rebuilding this site's 3D engine
The manta rays on the homepage just went through a ground-up rebuild — from a legacy Three.js iframe to a react-three-fiber scene with GPU shader animation, instancing, and proper keyboard accessibility. The full writeup is in Selected Work. Remaining polish items are on the list, but the engine has shipped.
Between three cities
Life is currently split between Edmonton, Bangkok, and Manila — a triangle that maps onto the work: Canada for home base, Southeast Asia for the manufacturing network and the on-the-ground sourcing work in the Philippines.
Reading & thinking about
Machine translation evaluation, the history and philosophy of science (the academic life never fully lets go), and what "low-resource" really means when the resource is attention.
